Hotel Missoni Kuwait is a luxury lifestyle hotel due to open in Kuwait’s shopping and entertainment district of Salmiya on the 1st of March 2011. It will be the second of several properties of a joint venture between the Missoni fashion house and the Rezidor Hotel Group, following the successful opening of the 136-room Hotel Missoni Edinburgh in Edinburgh,Scotland on June 8, 2009.

The hotel’s architects are Dino Georgiou & Partners, while the interior designer is Italian architect Matteo Thun in collaboration with Rosita Missoni. It is currently planned to be the only designer hotel in Kuwait and the first in the Middle East.

The hotel will form the centerpiece of The Symphony, a 35 million KD (120+ million USD) mixed-use development incorporating the beige twenty-story hotel, a red twelve-story office tower, and a super-exclusive three-story shopping mall. The hotel will have a spectacular location on the famous Arabian Gulf Road on the Salmiya seafront, while the office component will border Salem Al Mubarak Street to the rear of the project, across the street from the American University of Kuwait. Salmiya is world-renowned for its shopping, dining and entertainment venues, and the Hotel Missoni will offer its guests all of this through its excellent location.

Currently undergoing interior furnishing and decoration, the hotel will include 106 stylish guest rooms and 63 suites (all with spectacular views of the Persian Gulf), a signature Missoni Cucina restaurant, a Mocha Missoni coffee bar, a chocolate café with an outdoor terrace, a rooftop restaurant called Luna, a 1326 square meter Six Senses Spa with treatment rooms, a high-tech fitness facility and a large outdoor swimming pool overlooking the Gulf. Additional facilities will include a business center and several state-of-the-art conference rooms, as well as a spacious ballroom for large-scale events. All facilities will be decorated with Missoni’s signature design elements including lines, stripes, zig-zags and colors; even the swimming pool will be tiled in Missoni’s stripes and colors.

As of January 24, 2011, construction of the hotel is complete. The façade has been completed with the installation of the ‘Symphony’ signs atop the building. A steel spire and curving glass and steel sculpture have been added to the curvilinear top of the tower. Work has reached completion on the podium and hotel entrance, while paved roads, plants and other landscaping have been added to the exterior spaces. Interior works, such as plumbing installation and wall painting, along with mechanical and electrical installations commenced in May 2008 and are currently being finalised. The installation of finishings began in spring 2010 in preparation for the hotel’s planned opening in the first quarter of 2011. Almost all of the eighteen floors of hotel rooms/suites, the lobby, meeting facilities and pool deck have been completed so far, with work steadily having recently been completed on the Cucina restaurant, chocolate café, remaining guest floors, spa and meeting facilities.

Kuwait is celebrating the annual two days for the 49th National Day and 19th Liberation day after seven months of Iraqi occupation. Kuwaiti people are taking advantage of this five days vacation to plan a big celebration. Kuwait’s streets and buildings are festooned with Kuwaiti flags and lights in the colors of the national flag. For the past two days, Gulf Road came to a standstill as cars throng the main road to celebrate, with teens and kids waving flags and using foam to spray one another and anyone nearby in celebration.

Happy Holydays
